Time commitment: monthly/varies/4-6hours a month during session – depending on volume of policy area legislation

“Common Good” Working Group

This can become a pipeline for capitol interns once they hit college if they stay in Denver or come home for the summer.

School Board Outreach

Coordinator to arrange bi-monthly meetings and keep Senator Newell abreast of happenings.  Forge relationships with all school boards.

Local Business Outreach

South Metro sends out notices of grand openings and anniversaries.  Need to know when this is happening district wide.  Can send at least congratulatory/welcome letters or attend grand opening.

  • Corporate Citizen of the Month – letter and website write up/Facebook/Twitter

Community Outreach Group

For each neighborhood  – there should be a community Outreach group (1 for Sheridan, 1 for Bow Mar, 1 for Belleview, 1 for Cherry Hills, 1- Centennial, 1- Chatfield…etc…)

Each outreach group will have two co-chairs, 1 church liaison, 1 school liaison, 1 senior citizen or youth (college student) liaison, and community advocates.  (Obviously, these roles are flexible to the needs of the neighborhoods….)

Church Liaison

  • Provides Co-Chairs with calendar of events at each church in the neighborhood (e.g., bible study, special events, etc.)
  • Attends occasional church events as a surrogate, and meets with representative from each church in the neighborhood
  • Identifies best method of communicating to each church in the neighborhood through church bulletins, announcements, advertisements, etc.
  • Attends monthly meetings with the Outreach Director to keep her apprised of the COG’s progress

Community Advocates

Identify potential community members, organizations, and events Senator Newell should engage

  • Host neighborhood informational meetings
  • Coordinates pre-approved town halls on issues affecting their neighborhood
  • Gathers contact information lists and presents to the COG co-chairs
